Calling farnborough’s budding film makers

Film a snapshot of life in your street or local area and upload it to mystreetfilms as part of a national competition.

MyStreet organisers are looking for people to make a short documentary film about your “street” and upload it to their website where your film will be seen by all.

You can make a new film or perhaps you already have one?

Each year the shortlisted films will be showcased at the Open City London Documentary Festival (June 16th – 19th 2011).

The submission deadline for this year is May 26th 2011.

The films will be judged by an international jury and the best film will be awarded the MyStreet Grand Prize of £3,000. There will also be two runner up prizes of £2,000.

So get you camera rolling.

How to build a bridge part three

Work on our new footbridge at Farnborough train station suddenly moved ahead over the weekend.

Engineers must have been pretty busy because on Friday evening there were just two lift towers but this morning a whole beautiful bridge has been assembled.

It seems in keeping with the traditional English railway style, although a bit angular.

Great to see new life being breathed into our facilities. What will happen to the old bridge I wonder? I assume it will be taken down….perhaps we’ll see it on eBay soon?!

How to build a bridge part two

Development continues on building Farnborough’s new footbridge.

How to build a bridge part one

Work has begun on a new footbridge at Farnborough station, designed to be accessible to all. The diggers have been churning away at the concrete for some time now and the two lift shafts are being constructed.

It will certainly be much easier for parents getting their prams and buggies over to the far platform, and make it far more accessible for many other passengers.

New police crime map launched today

Today a new police website has been launched which provides details of all reported crimes in England and Wales – just type in a postcode and find out the local crime statistics. Well I would if I could actually get onto the site.

Unsurprisingly the site has crashed due to the high volume of people trying to access it. Why promote the launch in national papers then?

Opening up and sharing public data like this is theoretically a good thing and this site may allow local people to hold the local police force to account.

In reality it raises concerns over its impact on an area’s reputation and house prices. Have you looked up Southwood on it yet?

The site also includes helpful contact details for your nearest police team and information on how to get involved. For example, residents in Southwood are invited to attend a Neighbourhood Meeting/Surgery:

When: 13th February 2011, 9:30am
Where: Southwood Golf Club, Ively Road, Southwood, Farnborough, Hampshire,
